Just curious about Deposition Videographer. What type of salary/income can one expect to make?

Josh Bass May 14th, 2003 11:25 PM

Here in Houston, at least, an independent can charge $50 an hour. . .and that's rather low from what I understand!

Bryant Sentosa May 14th, 2003 11:27 PM

Really...? That's pretty decent. I guess it would depend on how much you work. Luckily for us the U.S. is a place where we love to sue each other... :)

Yes. And sometimes those depos run long.

I've never even heard of this field.

Where can I get more information?
What is the outlook of this profession?
What is the job market like for this profession?
Is there an sturation of videographer in this field?
Is there classes that someone can take?

Bryant,
This thread is probably one of the best resources you'll find on the subject. Pay particular note to Paul's extensive remarks further up.

What other training courses is avaibale? Does anyone know of any other courses besides the one listed above?

thx.

For those interested I found this site that look pretty complete.
I haven't explored it in depth, but the additional links might be helpful.

Got another question:

I looked at two videographers website and from that they state, they are using Sony 3 CCD cameras. One I think is using the PD-150 and the other Sony DSR250.

Here is one of them, I can't find the other.

http://www.legaldigitaltech.com/

They have video demo

Again, I am so new it's not even funny, but can those camera be used? Paul stated that digital is not preferred. Will be able to supply the time stamp?

Earlier in this thread Paul Sadillo asked it the XL1s will be able to do this. I just want to confirm the answer was yes, and the GL2 can't.

thx.

Through my main business (which is, unfortunately, more mundane than DV) I have plenty of exposure to the US legal system. It makes me glad that I live in Europe. I may never get a job as a deposition videographer...but then at least I never have to pretend to like lawyers! :-)

Mike Rehmus May 15th, 2003 10:38 PM

That seems a bit harsh, Nigel. Especially since one of those lawyers (Paul) contributed so much to this thread.

Sorry you've had personal experience with a few you don't like.

I hate to ask this questions, it'll really make me look like a newbie.

I'm really interested in this profession can some help me answer these questions:

1) Can anyone tell me of a make or model of a outboard date/time generator?

2) What is the purpose of the mixer? Make/Model?

3) What make/model of lav mics?

I work with a guy on a show, and he does depositions using his XL1.

Thank you Paul for your insight. I have been looking for some answers on this topic for some time. Outside of the mentioned certification programs there is little information to be found. It seems to be a well guarded industry.
