Marketing

Everybody out there being paid $$$ for their services/knowledge.

My questions is this:

1. How do you market yourself? (Via email/yellow pages/ads etc.)

2. To whom do you market yourself?

3. Do you market with a brochure?

4. Do you have a website?

5. Etc. Insert your own...

6. Are they successful?

7. How often do you use this information in contacting potential clients? (i.e. Once a month, twice a year, yearly etc.)

Anything that you deem pertinent, must haves, information please post.

Thank you in advance.

Cheers!

Not sure how this post got missed for so long.

In my case...
1) By networking. Almost all my business has been word of mouth.
2) Anyone I think might give me money. :)
3) No. I don't think brochures are very cost effective in terms of your advertising budget.
4) Yes

I'm sure other folks will chip in with there experiences.

Dylan,

Thanks for scratching out a response(s) to those dry, but essential questions.

I thought that is true, word of mouth is definately the best way to get work. Professionalism and enthusiasm will go a long way in that area.

I am at the bottom of the mountain, slowly climbing.

Cheers!

Word of mouth
referrals
word of mouth
bridal shows
word of mouth
talking to everyone I can
handing out business cards to; (see above)
and, oh yeah, word of mouth.

Since most of my work is weddings I just talk to everyone that would have anything to do with a wedding, DJ's, caterers, flower shops, coordinators, photographers, tux places, bridal shops; I know I missed some. I talk to them, gice them my brochue and keep in touch with them, and generally just talk to everyone I meet about my business.

tell everyone you know and everyone you meet what you do. i have a little poster above my desk that says "Well, actually..." why? the more you tell people what you do with enthusiasm, the more people will say "Well, actually I have a need for someone like you."

i personally have been just word-of-mouth to this point, but i'm planning on a postcard mailer to local businesses and running some ads in the local paper. i also think that the yellow pages and your website are important. when people need something, a lot of times they'll try and look it up. if you have a yellow pages ad, you nailed those people. if you have a website with a good google rank, you nailed those people too.

Brian,

Thanks for the posts. True about the look up. The Information Age where accessibility, visability, are a nice touch to grow some business.

Be visiting your neck of the woods soon. I'll make it a point to grab an In-N-Out burger and Johnny Rockets pattie-O-beef... Not to mention experience LA.

Cheers!

Some folks think we are in the video business. What we are actually in is the people business. Without people there is no business. If you wait for people to call you up to book you you'll have a long wait. There are so many of us out there. Folks remember people they talk to, so I've always done business that way. Years ago, I had a yellow pages ad that cost me a lot and brought me just about nothing. Word of mouth is cheaper and without question, the absolute best form af advertising there is.
