How to Get distribution deals?

Hi,
looking at making several videos geared towards martial arts audiences (instructional). I've been checking into distribution, but seem to have trouble finding info. Has anyone produced any kind of video for distribution out there? Can one contact the distributors before production, or do you need to have product in-hand before pitching to them? I'm trying to find the viability of its production and marketing beforehand. There seem to be a large number of magazines and equipment distributors out there on the web.
Any info appreciated.

You may want to read this http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthrea...&threadid=5941 It might be an easy way to get your product out.

Nah, you're good Ken. If anyone hasn't seen Treasure of Sierra Madre, it's their loss. I'm pretty sure that's the title, my brain is doubting itself...

Anyway,
Mr. Mac Daddy, what type of market are you going for specificaly? If it's for people that are looking for a training video to supplement their own training, I would look for anyone that distributes martial arts equipment.

If you are making something for beginners, then I would look for distributers of other "self-help" style videos and try and get them to carry it.

IMHO, there are a LOT of martial arts training videos out there. If you are going to make another, try and hit a niche market, and not just produce another one of the thousands that are out there.

Keep us posted!

Hi Guys,
No Ken- I was with you on that. And...I just dated myself.

You are right- there are a LOT of martial arts videos out there. I'm looking at producing a "Cross Trainer" series of tapes for people of any discipline who want to learn new moves or techniques from a variety of other arts out there.
Atlanta isnt as diverse as New York, but we do have some big names in the industry here.

Kinda hoping I can get some training in return too I guess. Gettin old.

Keep you posted, thanks for the links!
