how much should i be expected to be paid?
 

situation: one editor has 1 week to edit a 26 minuet show. he leaves it to the last day and does a piss poor job. for example, spelling mistakes, black frames where there shouldn't be, audio out of sink with video, its to long, it does not fit the criteria of the edit, the ad break is 4 minutes off. when i sat down and watched what he had done, i came up with over 120 mistake or bad edits.

the guy has to leave the country so he really ant stay on to finish it. i steep in to finish it because i'm the only one with knowledge of final cut around and i do a damn good job in the time i have. i works 22 hour days for 5 days straight to get it finished and to the distributors.


basically. what daily rate should i be charging? i'm working in pounds sterling and i have suggested £200 a day.

the budget was about 5000 quid.

On a project like that I give them an hourly rate to dig out of somebody's mess. Otherwise a very high date rate assuming 12-20 hour days. They either pay it or their project dies. Do charge them a "reasonable" rate but the "back against the wall saving your backside rate" is higher than "no pressure" or "you're in control of everything" rate, IMHO. Your rate sounds closer to a no pressure rate although I don't know the details of the London market.
