Did Postage to Mail DVD Mailer Go Way Up

Anyone in the U.S. mailing DVDs in white cardboard mailers get a new quote on postage? Seems like it might have more than doubled, but I'm not sure.

Call me crazy, but I'm sure if you call the 1800 postal service, they would tell you if and when it went up in price.

Postage went up. It's not only based on weight but size of the envelope as well as thickness can impact price. Instead of using a scale you now need a 3D scanner! Sheesh!

Maybe if you use the new Starwars mailer, the force will save you some money.. Ok someone had to make that joke.

New rates

Your "mailer" is now considered a "package."

New rates:
1st oz. envelope .41
1st oz. large envelope .80
1st oz. package 1.13

each add'l ounce is .17

I used to pay $1.63 for 1st class postage of a DVD in a cardboard mailer--I'm curious what it will be now also.

Paul Cascio May 22nd, 2007 09:47 AM

Charles - Correct me if I'm wrong but that cardboard mailer was $.63 before. At least that's what I was paying.

Now, I'm told it's $1.13 - because (I love this part) there's not 3-inches of flex.

I'm curious how this affects NetFlix and Blockbuster?

Paul,

I stopped using the mailers a while ago. Instead I use a brown envelope. A single dvd in amray case fits it nicely and since the dvd case is pretty stout I haven't had a damage complaint yet. 1st class charge $1.38.

Regards

Normally, $1.38 wouldn't be a deal killer, but I have a volume project that used to mail for .63 each and now the cost has more than doubled. Trying to find a cheaper method.

I use these

But I have not used Stamps.com since before the price increase last week.
