Doing widescreen Squeeze mode

When i capture my video shot in "squeeze" wide mode from my single chip jvc, it works fine if i capture it as widescreen. But when i export it it squishes it and after effects doesnt recognise it.

ANyone have any ideas on this?

Cheers

You don't mention which NLE you're using. But the behavior you describe sounds correct (although I don't know about the After Effects question). If you flag the clip as anamorphic 16:9 then your NLE should display it properly on the screen as you edit, but if you export then it won't look right unless you're using a widescreen monitor. Such is the nature of anamorphic video.

If you need to view on a regular 4:3 monitor you'll need to make a separate letterboxed version. Or another possibility is to burn to DVD and let the DVD player automatically provide letterboxing. If you're exporting for use on a computer monitor using something like Quicktime then you need to either letterbox as 4:3 or create a custom frame size in the correct proportion (eg: 854x480) for a square-pixel monitor.
