Another factor in Filmlook

..is the way i think slow motion is done. even as little as 20%.

smooth slow mo goes a long way along with other factor methinks

Slow motion is, of course, done differently on video cameras than it is on movie cameras.

Movie cameras shoot more frames per second, and play them back at a normal rate. If you shoot 48 frames per second, and play them back at the standard 24 frames per second, it will take two seconds to play those frames, and thus you will get a 50% slow-mo effect.

There are a couple of cameras that can do a similar effect. The DVX100 can shoot at 30P which, when imported into a 24P timeline, provides a film-like 25% slow-mo effect. The Varicam shoots at variable frame rates from 4 to 60 fps, so it can do true filmlike slow-mo. The CineAlta can also shoot at 30P. And the JVC HD1/HD10 can shoot standard-def video at 60P.

And any NTSC video camera can shoot 60i which can be turned into 60 fps. You will need the proper software to make each frame full res again but when you play it back at 24 fps it will appear to be more than a 100% slower.

Works best with 24p cameras that can shoot in 60i as well (ie. DVX100) because then you can seemlessly intercut between the 60fps and the 24p footage.

Also, for converting from 60i to 60p, check out FieldsKit from RE:Vision Effects, Inc. (http://www.revisionfx.com/rsfk.htm)

It is a bundle of these plugins:
- FieldsKit Deinterlacer
- FieldsKit Reinterlacer
- FieldsKit Pulldown.

For a nice article on FieldsKit Deinterlacer and Twixtor, take a look at this:

Hope this helps!
