To De-Interlace Or Not To De-Interlace...

Try this as a budget alternative?

It has both version for PC and Mac. Good luck.

I'll give this one a shot and hope no one chastises me. You're asking if it's better to shoot in a camera's progressive (or pseudo-progressive) scan mode, or shoot in regular 60i and then deinterlace in post, correct?

According to the site you mentioned, shooting in, for example, the XL1s's frame mode will give you a lower resolution image. When panning or tilting in frame mode, in addition, I've noticed a really jerky effect once you start to pan/tilt past a certain speed.

In theory, and this is according to that site. . .recording in 60i and deinterlacing in post will give you a higher resolution image and eliminate this jerkiness, while still giving you the look that frame mode gives you. Haven't tried it myself yet.

I thought it was the other way around, but then again, it depends on the cam.
