Inverted Video Solution
 

Hi iam building a mini 35mm adapter i am trying to get around the the problem of the inverted video i read that you can use a magnet and invert the video on your lcd screen my question is can this be done with the XL1 and if so how and where do you place the magnet, I know its not safe for the view finder and it could damage it but, what the hell i need a solution

Record with the camera upside down.

I'm going to say that it is a very bad idea. If it can be done, it will be at the cost of the integrity of your camera. A magnetic field around magnetic tape could be the end of the world for your project. Not to mention the electronics of your camera.

You can shoot upside down, or you could try to frame the shots with them inverted. I think it would be best to just learn how to frame the shot with it inverted.

Try this: Run the camera out to your monitor and turn the monitor upside down.

It won't work on an XL1 because it doesn't have a flip out monitor, therefore it doesn't have the need/capability to flip the image.

1. Apparently you can rotate the viewfinder to the right side of the camera (so it is upside down).

2. Or you can use an external monitor with a flip function or mounted upside down.

Note that these will give you a correct preview, but the recorded signal will still be inverted.

3. You can shoot with the camera upside down to record a right side up signal to tape, but the EVF will still show upside down, so you'd need to use it in conjunction with 1. or 2. to get a proper preview also.
