Film-looking video from the war

Folks

I noticed that some of the video images coming back from CNN(?) has a film-look to it. Anybody noticed this? It looks very much like the quality from the Frame-mode on the Canon XL-1. I'm sure they are not using the XL1 out there. Perhaps a GL1? Or another camera?

Anyone knows?

Film-Like look

The reason you're seeing a film-like look is because I'm guessing it's being shot in PAL and converted. I used to do standards conversions and always noticed the difference in looks and wondered why. It's the frame rate- PAL is 25p and film is 24p.

Anyone else?

I've been watching footage from the war from BBC sources and in one shot, you could see a camera man in the background with an XL1.

But I think the effect you saw is as stated perhaps just conversion from PAL source to NTSC. At 25 frames a second...life goes slower with higher res for us europeans.

The lastest footage from Iraqi TV show they don't use frame mode, cos you could see all the interlaced lines on their footage.
