Quick question
 

Hi, I'm just getting into filming with DV & this isn't so much a question on that but more a quesiton on films in general!

I dunno how many of you have DVDs but on many of them you get 'extras' which include outtakes & storyboards etc. However they often include deleted scenes and this is what has intruiged me: In these scenes the picture quality is often a lot poorer than in the finished film. Even some of the scenes which have been pulled out near the end of production are of a much worse quality than the finished film. What I want to know is, what is done to this 'deleted' film to give it the sparkle & polish that the finished film has?

The reason i'm asking is that i'm soon to be filming a small independant film in the summer & at the moment i'm putting all my time into getting the camera work looking as nice as possible but if there's some editing trick which improves picture quality as well i'd love to hear it! I'm filming with a Cannon G1 (I think it's 'G1' !?!) and i'll be editing using Adobe Premier 6.5

Segments are deleted because they don't fit in "the whole," and/or they are not up to snuff. To polish these removed bits is a matter of mainly picking the best of these bits that'll somewhat "fit in."

Almost every film scene is color corrected on high end work stations, da Vinci's when I was doing high end projects. I'm not sure what the latest rage is now. No point in color correcting footage your not using. Charles Papert has a post about color correcting a project he worked on, but I couldn't find it. Try using the search function and search color correction and see what comes up, it should help. Charles will probably pop in this weekend, too.
