I enjoyed going to this site and the Apple DSP site to look for inspiration into making a DVD.

I would like to make a pro tile installation video. I have been a tile contractor years. Though I've played guitar for decades and have many songs and instrumentals for FREE online that doesn't seem to pay the bills. I have made a tile installation video for an Adobe Premiere nightschool course. I turned it in late and don't even know what grade I got for the course. But it was nice meeting other people that are interested in video creativity.

I only have a digital Sony Ultura camcorder, sorry no XL 1 yet. But I have made two slide show videos to go along with two songs I wrote and played. Actually my dad wrote one of them, it is called "The Hypnotist". I wrote the other, it is called:"The Ballad Of Jim and Betty". I sing on both. I posted here before, I enjoy the way this site is set up so I thought I'd post a little bit about myself. I admire some of the people here brave enough to go out and buy an expensive camera like an XL1 and do an independent film and try to shop it around. That takes alot of courage, especially if you have very few contacts.

I have one acoustic guitar - slide instrumental that got onto an independent film called "Good Bye Guy Guy". I introduced myself to one of the people doing that movie, I found them at Craigslists.org through a post. They went to my site and heard "The Slide": http://www.mp3.com/tile

So all in all I really havn't had much success in media, but it is a nice outlet from the physical work of tile installation.

Thank you for introducing yourself Bill! Greatly appreciated. Although
you are not doing indepedent movie making it sounds like you have
a lot of interesting stuff up your sleeves too! And you do not
need an XL1 to make anything. There are a lot of good cameras
out there and most of the time it is only a tool. Sure it can help
a lot, but I personally do not consider it my most important
asset when it comes to movie making. That is my brain.

Because I plan on using DVD as the container for the tile installation movie the quality of the video would be Mpeg2. I put up 3 short mini-vidoeos on the web (setile.com) but to get the file size down I had had to sacrifice the quality, having a server limit on how much I could upload.

So maybe I could use my little Cannon Ultura (1 chip) camera or do you think it would be too noticeable as compared to a 3 chip XL1?. I've never used an XL1 or any kind of 3 chip camera, I sure like the nice microphone on the XL 1. The Ultura has a very small mic and does not seem professional at all. But I do have Cubase music set up were I could narrate and install .aiff files in Premiere.

I am wondering what "Hometime" uses? Probably something like an XL-1. I would like to make it the highest quality but yet affordable.

I don't know your camera, so I cannot asses its quality. And then
again, quality is in the eye of the beholder. What do you think?

Hi Bill,

The quality you send me was way way too bad. Now I don't
know if you used a bad JPEG compression or bad capture
compression or that this is the signal you get from this camera,
but that quality I saw is unacceptable.

Ya, my video frame size was small and I blew it up out of proportion I guess.
