Hey Andrew,
It's been a while since I googled my own name. I have actually had a break since April, recharging the batteries. I was in The Laramie Project in March 2004 with Brighton Theatre Company and in March 2005 with a slightly modified cast (ie 4 original and 4 new) we performed it at Chapel Off Chapel here in Melbourne. It was so well recieved both times, but at Chapel it blew us away with the responses. Being a well known professional venue helped to get a greater cross section of theatre goers. We were all wrapped to get 5 stars in the Sunday Age review, we even beat the Melbourne Theatre Company. We also got drunk with Jackie Weaver the night she came to see the show. After that I performed in one of four one act plays that were written by Alan Hopgood (writter of And The Big Men Fly and actor in Bellbird). He had written the plays some 30 odd years ago and wanted to see if they might do well now. He was happy but I think the material was just a tad dated. As to what is next - I will soon start working on a play called BELOW. It's written by an ex pat pom who lives in Perth. (Can't remember his name off the top of my head.) The play was done at La Mama here in Melbourne some years back, so he is wrapped that it will see performance time again. It will be performed in April 2006, but I am working out in the gym as prep work for the role. Hope to soon shoot a short that I wrote for 24Hours. I am reviewing and rewritting and stroryboarding it to give it a feel for film seeing as it was originally written for stage. Perhaps if you are in Melbourne in April you can come as see BELOW. |
Andrew,
No I didn't have any plans to do DVC 4 - I'd like to though. It's pretty short notice though. How far are you progressed? I'll likely be in Gipps on Mon and maybe Tue - send me a PM if you'll be doing anything then. Sorry I'm not much help, but I'd like to help if I can. BTW I hope your bros GF is ok. Cheers. |
Hello all,
I stumbled upon this thread by searching for Miller tripods. And I'm glad I did; I'm from Melbourne too - Berwick to be precise. I'm glad to hear there are more likeminded people nearby. I'm about to purchase the Z1 (or maybe wait for the Panasonic) and I am wondering about good, cheap, helpful places to purchase from. I have been on the phone a lot to www.videoguys.com.au but I don't know of many other stores with whom to compare prices. Any advice? |
Places to buy gear
John,
Have you tried www.new-media.com.au they are in south melbourne and I've found them to be really helpful and well priced. Pete |
New Media usually have the audio gear a few $ cheaper than Videoguys. I wasn't looking at the video gear so much.
I'm still deciding about a wireless system, and it looks like SoundCorp in Northcote have some things cheaper than other places too. Another video place it VideoCraft in Ashwood (511 Warragul Road, videocraft.com.au) and they have a few ready to go packages, plus specials on various bits. Shop around. If you're looking for face-to-face advice, definitely check out the bigger places. Tasman AV in Collingwood have a few people who really know their stuff, but not everyone there does. You want somone who can answer specific questions, and who has experience with most or all the gear they're selling. They have several (about 10) mid to high end cameras setup at Tasman, good to check out just to see how they perform and compare. |
Zero2Infinity Films
Well I made a big and exciting New Years resolution of sorts this year. On New Years Day I registered successfully a business - Zero2Infinity Films. All systems are go for Steve (my partner) and me. We have a camera (Canon XL2), we have made a steady cam, we have all the parts to make a skate board dolly. More importantly we have our first script. It is a short play that I wrote a couple of years ago for a special event and we are in the process of rewritting it for film. We are looking at shooting it in February and will post footage on our website which should be live very soon.
I know so many people in this game - talented actors, writters, directors, lighting people, set builders, audio gurus and the goal of Zero2Infinity is to utilise all of these people and resources, to create our own films and blooby well enjoy every step, every mistake, every success along the way. Boy am I excited - I love this stuff. |
Hello everyone
Hi,
A quick introduction. My name is Alex, 21 years old and im a photographer living in Melbourne, Australia. Have been visiting these boards for a while and finally signed up! Thought it best to introduce myself before randomly posting. I love my photography, currently automotive work, and also have my own business that is getting on its feet. However I want to start making some serious doco's and short films I have written. Its a pity to have spent so much on my still photo kit, and now spend more on video gear. Such is. I hope to see you all on the forums soon, no doubt with an abundance of helpful information. Cheers, Alex |
Welcome Alex! Glad you took the plunge after lurking for awhile. Will look forward to hearing more from you.
|
Welcome Alex,
You do have a lot of mates from Australia on this board! Glad you signed up. Mike |
Sorry for digging up an old thread, but I'm just wondering Ron if your "Zero2Infinity Films" venture actually ever got fully operational?
|

Hello from Melbourne Australia
Hi all!
Stumbled across this forum as I'm currently researching HDV cameras, looking between Canon and JVC. From what I'm reading JVC is the way to go. I'm an editor by trade but shoot a bit as well. I've cut everything from Corporates to Features and I'm expert in Avid and Final Cut Pro. We are about to go on the road doing a travel doco and that's why I'm looking into HDV. So that's me. Glad to be here. |
Hi Sean,
Glad you're here, and I hope you'll keep coming back for more. Good luck in your search for the camera that's right for you. :) That road trip for the travel documentary sounds like a blast! Have a great time with it. |
Hi Sean, welcome aboard DV Info Net, it's good to have you with us. Enjoy the road trip! :)

Hi Sean,
call me sometime. |
Hi Sean,
Is this Sean Lander from Globla Vision in Melbourne Australia? If so this is Simon Duncan. I worked at Global Vision back in 1997 as a production assistant for the series of Education Docuementary DVD's. I am now based in France. Been shooting stuff on the trusty old Canon XL1 for around 4 years now and have also been looking at the JVC HD200 camera. Regards Simon Duncan |
