Howdy from Tucson Arizona

I'm new to DV and came across this forum while looking for info. Lots to learn and this seems like a great place to learn a lot.

I'm also new to Tucson, having moved here about 6 months ago from the San Francisco area.

In the "real" world I'm a consultant in the computer tape drive area, working for Japanese companies that have joint development and manufacturing relationships with US computer companies. I've lived a lot of places, including 6 years in Tokyo. And yes, I speak Japanese and can even do e-mail when need be.

I guess tape is tape, be it video or data. I've been in the computer field since about 1959, when we thought 200 bits per inch on tape was pretty dense, and now we're getting around a terabyte on a single cartridge. And close to 2 terabytes compressed. Maybe in the ballpark of 75 to 100 HD DVD's

My main interest in DV is to produce clips to be integrated with 3D Computer Animation, either as backgrounds or in match moved sequences. It's all a hobby at this point, but it gives me something new to learn (at age 66)

Thanks for the opportunity to introduce myself, glad to be here.

Hello Jim, are you still in Tucson? I'm considering moving there and would like to have your impression if you have time, of the city as an independent videographer. Thank you in advance,
Erick
