Don't know if Edwarduos is still around and IIRC Ronnies was closed a couple of years ago due "Health Code Violations" (they found little varments running around inside and out) but man was it ever the place for cheap GOOD steaks!

second or third inning pop foul, barely into the third base box seats. the fly ball was catcheable except for the cubby fan that tried to snag the ball and caused it to be dropped. with fans like that, the cubbies are doomed.

Matt Gettemeier October 9th, 2003 04:44 PM

Don, thanks for the info on all this... I can't wait to get up to Chicago again.

Hey for ANYBODY who reads this and hasn't taken one or more of the boat tours of Chicago... DO IT! My roommate lived in Chicago for 2 years and I've been telling him about tons of stuff he never knew about!

I've said, "How could you NOT already know this?"... and he says, "I never took the boat tours."

If the weather's nice it's the PERFECT accent to a date as well 'cause it only takes about an hour and it's romantic at night...

So anyway I just wanted to post this so that no resident or visitor of Chicago misses out on something so cheap and informative... Once somebody SHOWS you the intelligence of architecture and entire city planning you realize that they did EVERYTHING the hard way 'cause it resulted in such a well thought out city... perfect for video too! ( I can't wait to see Ken Tanaka's LadyX film since it should showcase a lot of Chicago. )

Hey Matt, let me know when you're coming perhaps we can join up. Wendella is a nice tour of the Chicago River thru downtown, but like you said ONLY in the decent weather.

No Cubs tonight so I guess I'll have to talk to my wife instead :-0

Don't hate me for being right. Even the fans contributed to this amazing loss. Marlins score 8 runs in one inning. One more game to go.

Mark Moore October 14th, 2003 10:10 PM

Maybe the guy that "interfered" with Alou was that dolt-kid from NY a few years ago that blatantly interfered with the Orioles at Yankee Stadium during their last winning season, costing them the series and a perennial fourth place finish (thank goodness for Tampa)! Not that I'm bitter or anything!

Joe Carney October 14th, 2003 11:40 PM

Mark, he didn't even look sorry he did it. What a scuz ball. they had to 'escort' him out of the stadium to avoid getting killed. And those sucky announcers were actually trying to apologize for him. Scuz ball, low life interferer. What a loser.

Damn, they even had me beleiving. Maybe they can recover and get them in the last game.

Ken Tanaka October 15th, 2003 01:19 AM

I don't know how I've missed this thread for a week.

Joe: Yes, Edwardo's is still around and cranking out deep dish by the ton. Due's has become, perhaps, the most popular pizza place for tourists. Connie's and Lou Malnati's have the most popular pizzas for locals. Giordano's has slipped several notches in the past years since they became a corporate chain and basically serve frozen pizzas.

Re: Cubs, I'm sick over game 6...along with millions of others around the country. Contrary to the Fox commentators' point of view, the 8th inning disaster had little to do with the kid interfering with Mo's catch. It had everything to do with Mark Prior's pitching breaking down early.

I guess we'll have to see if Kerry Wood can keep the Marlins in check tomorrow night. Geez, it's like a traffic accident. You can't stand to watch but you can't help yourself.

Don Bloom October 15th, 2003 05:43 AM

I might have reached out for the ball also. I don't think the kid even realized he had done it.

Did it cost them the game. Not in my opinion. Baker should have lifted Prior 1 or 2 hitters before, then there wouldn't have been a wild pitch, and maybe Gonzo wouldn't have booted the probable double play ball and maybe we would be celebrating on Addison and Clark. BUT!!!!!! Now they have to regroup and play a 1 game series so lets buckle up and see if they've got what it takes to do a gut check and do it.

with fans like that, they deserve to lose

Rob Belics October 15th, 2003 09:17 AM

It was on the edge of the wall and no interference was called. I agree that more knowledgeable fans would have backed away and allowed the catch but in the excitement you don't always think like a player.

They pick on that one guy but people forget there were three or four fans reaching for the ball. It just happened to hit the one guy's hand.

What's funny is how they say that play didn't lose the game for the Cubs but a minute later they talk about an error that started the rally.

A Red Sox/Cubs World Series would be fun to watch. But I don't want the Cubs to go anymore than I'd like to see the Yankees.

Ken Tanaka October 15th, 2003 10:28 PM

Well, maybe next year....

Joe Garnero October 16th, 2003 05:32 AM

Yeh, WAIT'LL NEXT YEAR!!!

Rob Belics October 16th, 2003 10:18 AM

I've been out in the country this week. There was this pig running across the field. When he got as fast as he could go, he'd grunt and jump. Then he'd turn around and do it again, run, grunt and jump. So I shot him.

In the WalMart nearby, Satan was seen returning snow boots.

Come on people! I don't mean to call you out Joe, but your statment is just a perfect example of what I have heard too much. I wanted nothing more than a Red Sox/ Cubs Final, but you know, things happen.

Its funny, because as I was driving in my car today I saw one of those 9/11 stickers that says "We will not forget".... Well, it looks like many people have, and it didn't take long. For a while everyone had perspective on life, and we realized what was important, but not anymore. I don't mean to preach but jeez, enough with the name calling and anger of something so trivial.

The guy is a cubs fan, he coaches little league baseball, he makes an honest living and is a law abiding citizen. He made a mistake, how "stupid" of a mistake it was is a subjective opinion (I feel like he just got excited, like 90% of people would have done he stood up AFTER people next to him stood to grab a fly ball in the stands). But that hardly makes a man a "low life" or a "scuz ball", I tend to reserve names like that for the people who deserve them: theives, rapists and murderers. Also, it seems funny that people talk about him being escorted out like it would have been more fitting for him to be beaten to death in the stands...

So lets all move on, realize that in reality professional baseball is nothing more than some guys getting paid millions to simply play a game, and its all in good fun for anyone to enjoy. I sincerely hope only that some psycho doesn't harm that guy or his family because of one little mistake....

Robbie
