Waking Ned (Devine)

For community members "across the Pond":

I must have been living under a rock in '98--just heard about and watched this hilarious movie for the first time last night. Brilliant!

Was wondering, has writer/director Kirk Jones written anything since Waking Ned? Also, I read an interview with him and wondered if the British release of the dvd has, as an extra feature, him providing commentary through the movie? If so, I'd love to get my hands on a copy and hear what he had to say. It's amazing to me that this was his first film.

Isn't that a wonderful film, Lorinda? My wife and I have watched it several times and seem to enjoy it more with each rewatch.

The Internet Movie Database (imdb.com) is your friend. It is a veritable last-word on filmographies and related stuff. But there seems to be very little concerning Mr. Jones on record, so perhaps he had not been very active in film work.

BTW, if you liked this film you might also like "The Dish".

Ohh, you are right about "The Dish," Ken. Think I'll brave the cold and rent it tonight!

As for Kirk Jones, I hope he's still active. It would be a shame if he used up his talent and/or resources on one hit. "Waking Ned" shot into my top five for writing--right up there with "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou."

Thank you for the links; I'll bookmark imdb.com.

And along the same lines, if you liked the above, you'd also enjoy "The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain". It has the same kind of funny small-town hijinks.

Unbelievable!!!! I just got back from Hollywood Video. They don't carry "The Dish" so I came home with--you guessed it, "The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill!!" That's just too good.

(edit) What makes that remarkable is that I've never heard of it--just happened to see it while checking out Hugh Grant :)
