Compressing Files On A Mac

So I have a Lacie External 1TB HDD and it is formatted FAT32. It was originally NTSF for my windows based machines but it wouldn't work with my mac and PS3 as well, so I reformatted it. Now, since it is FAT32, it does not support files that are larger then like 3.5GB. What is a compression that I would be able to make a large file like 11GB, and compress, into smaller files that uncompress into the larger file?

Or is there another way around this.

Bradley,

Install MacFuse and NTFS-3G on your Mac. This will give you free ability to read and write to NTFS.

Then you can reformat your drive back to NTFS and stop worrying about file size.

Of course, I don't know if this affects your PS3. Does it work with NTFS? It's not clear from your post.

You could always split it into two 500gig partitions. One NTFS, one FAT32.

Enjoy.

I'm not sure if PS3 will handle NTSF, but that is the last of my concerns. Thanks for your help. Never knew it could work.
