DVD Player + DLP Projector
 

I'm looking at buying a DLP projector for home, i am borrowing a HP VP6120(XGA res & 2000 lumens) at the moment and it looks great with a VGA input but Composite Video and S Video look quite bad. Doe's anyone know of any DVD players with VGA ouput that can match the quality of a PC. I have played Finding Nemo and Star Wars ep 2 on my PC through the projector and both look stunning with VGA.

If you have a decent projector and DVD player then component video is the way to connect them, it should give you the best possible quality. Since you want to use the setup for watching movies make sure you're getting a projector that's intended for video and not just powerpoint presentations.

We have used $100,000+ DLP projectors delivering more than 10,000 lumens on a 40' wide screen. I agree, s-video doesn't hold up well for that and VGA directly from my laptop looked much better. However for the actual show we ended up using DV transcoded to component via a firewire converter box and it looked terrific.

There are also projectors (and DVD players) with full digital
connections out. That should give a nice signal as well. If you
want to stay analog component is definitely the way to go.

It all boils down to money. How much do you want to spend?
In the range below $1000 the InFocus X1 is used a lot for
hometheater use due to it's massive contrast ratio. I don't
think it has digital or component in though. Such models usually
cost a lot more.

I'm using my XBOX as a DVD player.

This projector isn't really meant for Video playback, although it has Component ,Composite and S-Video connections. The home projectors seem very expensive and this one is around $1500 for XGA resolution and 2000 Lumens. It seems quite good value. It might be better just to build a small PC for playing DVD's.
