HD question for fellow aussies about "Home and Away"
 

How come Home and Away looks like digibeta, if its HD cam?
I know they have some SOny 750s(studio) and a 950(im guessing locations), but this is the worst HD ive ever seen, im most dissapointed.

If i lined this up with Spy kids 2 (f900), you'd think it was shot on dvx100.

Any ideas, from Aussies?

I'm a fellow Aussie resident (still officially a Pom... sorry!).

I haven't watched Home and Away since I left the UK(!!), but I know how they shoot it, which might explain a few things.

They shoot it with a multi-camera setup, so one scene is shot with 5 cameras rolling, for instance (almost like a live show) - this means that the lighting will be really flat (read: crap).

So it's like they're filming a play... so they won't have realistic lighting or a shallow depth of field or pans or dollies or steadicams (just in case they get the other cameras in shot).

Also the acting is crap and the stories are crap, which doesn't help... it's TV dinner fodder.

Heartbreak High was much better.

My recent short shot on a 3CCD JVC GY-DV301E looks much better than Home and Away (phew!)... but yeh, I wish I had their equipment as I'm sure I could make a great looking film with it.
