I live about 30-40 miles south of the Cape, and you can still feel the rumble when they launch.

When I lived in California, they used to land there once in a while, but sometimes you didn't know it was going to happen. The twin Sonic Booms used to rattle the buildings and you thought the was an explosion or an earthquake. Then, you would realize that they were the twin booms, and remember what it was.

I still have a still photo of the shuttle sitting on top of the 747, when it landed at Fort Bliss Texas, in about 1972. I was stationed there at the time, and it was on it's way back from a California landing, and they stopped for fuel. That was neat!
