Office Copiers - AARRRRGHH!!!
 

Dang, I need a website just like this one for office copiers. Seems hard to find straight data on office copiers. Mostly just sales BS out there. Tried the "free quote" websites but it looks like they are just lead-generating machines for salesmen. I need a mid-level unit for my school, 5 -10K copies a month, B&W only, 2-sided copies up to 11 X 17, reliable, good cost-per-copy, reasonable cost to replace the main things that have to be replaced every 50,000 copies or whatever it is. $2000 range is what I'm thinking. Anybody done the research? Know any good sources of information? Thanks. Bob

I am far from an expert on this topic, and I can't help with the pricing because that's handled by our business office. But I've been really happy with the two Kyocera/Mita multifunction machines we got two years ago, and we give them a beating. I really like the ability to scan a whole stack of pages, turn them into a PDF file and e-mail them. Before these we had two similar Xerox machines and they were nothing but trouble, really poor build quality. Too bad because their stuff used to be good.

the problem with these machine is not their price, but the way they are built.
All of them needs regular services (toner, cleaning, drum change), so usually you end up with maintenance contract higly priced (even more than the price of the device).
You would better to consider them as consumable devices. take the low priced one and buy several of them. if one fail, you just keep it for the spare parts, and keep service uninterrupted (vs. if you have only one that fails).
Additionally you can put each of them at the right place and pople will be allowed to use them as printer (by usb or network.)
