sachtler on manfrotto legs?

Re: sachtler on manfrotto legs?
Removed response. I as looking at the wrong set of legs.

Re: sachtler on manfrotto legs?
The 525 legs uses a 100mm ball head but I'm not sure of the length of the mounting bolt on the ball. I'd have to take mine apart. I "think" it's about 3/8 of an inch in height, could be a bit longer.

Re: sachtler on manfrotto legs?
Actually, Don, the bowl on the 525's is 75 mm, exactly the same as the Sachtler FSB 6 ball.
I've just tried the FSB 6 I have here for review on my older model 520's and it fits fine, though it didn't seem to have all that much angular adjustment compared to my (currently dismantled) Manfrotto 503 head. That was a bit of a furphy however, as the FSB 6 didn't have any more angular adjustment back on the Sachtler 75 CF's. From memory the 525's are simply a better version of the 520's, so I'd give the chances of the FSB 6 working as 9.9 out of 10. CS |

yes it is. I knew that as I was typing it and forgot fix it. Man it's hell to get old. ;-)

That's great to know - thanks!

Re: sachtler on manfrotto legs?
As the other heavyweights have said, it mounts fine BUT seems to sit a little bit higher in the bowl than one would expect.
Spec'd one for my former 9-5 recently... |
Re: sachtler on manfrotto legs?
Oh, and the "paddle" on the bottom of the Sachtler ball makes closing the legs fully a bit of a "dance"...

Re: sachtler on manfrotto legs?
So...if money wasn't an issue ...would you recommend buying a set of legs that are designed to work perfectly with the Sachtler FSB6 head?
if the head is hindered at all in it's usability, I'd rather just get a complete tripod and keep my manfrotto 525 legs with my 503 head as a backup tripod. thanks again for all of your sage advice! |
Re: sachtler on manfrotto legs?
I would recommend mating the FSB-6 to a Gitzo Systematic (avail in carbon fiber or aluminum).
