Greater Stag footy.

Hi guys
Well these shots/sequences are part of a project I've been working on for over a year now. These were shot last Summer and I thought I'd share with the planet Uwol.

Looks great Mat. Really like the detail in the second clip.

Thanks for the intro Mat. Lovely sharp macro work.

Never got so close to a stag beetle before but I used to get nightmares about such creatures. It may be that there is no more gentle insect in all nature than your friend but I'll wait for your movie before shedding my prejudice.

Brendan- They really are big soft buggers, its just a fearsome looking exterior and for the record theres no real strength in the mandibles, enough to give you a gentle squeeze at the most!! The only insect I know with a real personality and unfortunately endangered! -

Hi Mat, very stunning macrowork of the stag beetle. I'm impressed with the steadyness and nice DOF you got in the footage.
Do you want to share some of your set-up? What camcorder and lenses did you use?

Mat Thompson February 18th, 2009 12:45 PM

Hey Per
Glad you like it fella. Of course I'll share. - Its shot with the JVC HD110 + Stock fuji and Nikon 55mm micro (A very good lens indeed) - 25P / 1/50

The light was very good so I think most of the shots are at F5.6 or F8 giving some nice depth while still using the best aperture for sharpness.

I do really like the images from this camera. They have a richness and depth over the Canon I had previously, however I don't think it has the detail and clarity the canon does.
