A great place for people suffering from claustrophobia... Not the sort of place to dive alone if you can help it... LOL!

Nice work on the camera, Markus, but I think it cries out for some good narrative to match the footage and let viewers understand more about the underwater cavern.

Markus Nord December 7th, 2009 01:42 AM

Thanks Tony...

This is still a work in progress, the finish version will not have a 10 minute dive, and this is just the best parts edited together.

Some of the shot was really tricky to get... I hade to move in front of the diver without getting to much silt up from the bottom and then squeeze in to a crack to give the diver some room. Sometimes these places are safer if you dive alone....

Sorry, as I get older, the less comfortable I feel in spaces like this.

Heck, I felt cloustraphobic just trying on the Christmas tree costume my wife was making for the kids school play, and after hearing about the unfortunate accident that closed down a cave, recently, where a young man died, after getting his head stuck...

But, I do enjoy watching others explore caves, and give lots of respect to anyone who can do this. In my youth, not so long ago, I would have been down there with you.

Great video, and hope to see the finished production soon.

Blimey. I'm a diver and I've been in a couple of wrecks and a shallow 30-40m long swim through cave but holy $£"*! I could never in my life do this stuff. Wriggling under that wall of sharp rock and stirring up the viz seems bonkers. Hats off to you Markus, this is so specialist and so crazy to most folks I think if you get the production quality right (image wise it looks great so far) you'll have a saleable piece for sure!

Man....it gives me the shivers just thinking about this!

Markus Nord December 15th, 2009 01:07 PM

Hi Sam and Mat

The film is still under production, I will shot some more during the up coming expedition this spring. During this week I will concentrate on getting good shot of Trout’s that lives in the cave during the wintertime. I will also try to get some good shot of larvas from Dragonflies that get trapped inside the cave from the inflow of water.
We are at the moment producing a pilot to get some founding…

This expedition is one of the toughest diving expeditions going on right now. The cave is located long out in the wild, in the snow covered mountains of Sweden. I hope we can get the founding we need to get this film done.

My worst nightmare. They must be crazy.
The footage is great and it could be very compelling but it needs a good soundtrack. If you aren't thinking hard about the soundtrack I think you should.
I hope this music is only temporary.

Sam Mendolia December 17th, 2009 10:18 AM

Markus, good luck on getting the funding.

I really hope to see more from this project.
I'm happy you mentioned the wildlife, that spends time in the caves, whether they want to be there or not.
I have always been fascinated by the variations that these animals come up with over the years, to adapt to these types of environments. That's the Darwin in me.

I know my kids want to do some caving next year, on the Bruce Trail here in Ontario.
Nothing to the extreme that you are going through, but at least I'll be able to enjoy it with them.

I remember some caving in the Copper Mines, in the UK, walking and crawling are okay, but not the swimming that you are doing, to extreme for me now.

Ahh the freedom of ignorance that is youth, my we never truly grow out of all of it!

Markus Nord December 21st, 2009 02:18 AM

Richard – The music is a mix-up of another soundtrack, From the Hills to the Heads.

Thanks Sam, the wildlife is an important part of the production, it is not about the cave expedition, it is about the unique nature and the diver will take the audience in to this hostile place. Last expedition we hade two scientist with us and to this upcoming expedition I will continue to collect information to them.
God luck with the caving, I started in iron mines here in Sweden.

If or when you come to the Florida Spring, you will find the water here over 300 ft. visibility. Thirty years ago I did lots of caves, Glad I did it then, but now I enjoy looking at films of the caves. My favorite memory was seeing the air bubbles on top of the ceiling. They always made me think of quick silver.

I did several caves on Andros Island, nice warm water, but the visibility was bad.

Some how in the last thirty years my wet suit doesn't fit anymore. I think that I would have a real problem now getting through the cracks. Boy it is hard enough diving the caves, it must be a real chore to take a camera with you.

Nice job, and remember 1/3 in 2/3 out.
