Inexpensive Submersible Camera Angles & Monitoring

Will be sharing info and samples in the coming weeks hopefully of my setup with the Canon T2i getting underwater shots. Using a simple 2.5 gallon aquarium and the Canon EOS Utility on shore with full monitoring and camera control on a laptop, I hope to get some interesting underwater wildlife images.

I've used an aquarium before, but always by holding it IN the water and walking around with it. Being out of the water now will be huge. They will have to be static shots once I situate and stabilize the aquarium, but I look forward to what I will be able to get.

The technology that is available now is mind boggling.

Go to 2:45 for some examples of shooting underwater with an aquarium. (the truly affordable Gates/Amphibico housing!)

I realized it is sort of lame to post something without some good eye candy, so here some is.

Excellent stuff. Now I need to get out and film something!

@ the t2i underwater video

--> that shot at 0:08 would have been so nice with a slider :D

I actually did think about that with this setup. I just might try and figure something out.

Hi Ryan,

How did you connect camera to computer ? did you use usb cabe ? if it is so, there should be hole or something coming inside housing ? or is it with wireless ?

Alkım.

I just picked up the V.I.O. HD. The camera head is water proof to 1 meter so I am looking forward to trying it out mounted on a boom pole in shallow water. The recording unit and monitor are connected by a 4 foot cable. I'll actually be able to go a little deeper than the fishtank method which you have shown and I've tried as well. I am excited to try it and will post some results as soon as the weather clears up a bit along with the local creeks later in the spring.

just a thought,

Olympus has a camera that shoots 720 P and is water proof to 30 feet!!! Would be a cool tool.

This is maybe not inexpensive but it is very handy to use in shallow waters. The panasonic AG-HCK10 camera in a submersible housing.
I have used it handheld and on a Panasonic remotehead , placed out of the water.

Hi Yes it takes time to set up. Just orderd a Canon 600D guess it is the same camera as t3i and I will be using this for my microscope. Fanatstic you can get a HD camera, HD monitor and a HD recorder in just this little camera - and digital zoom without severe loss of quality. Guess it is the lens that will set the limit now.
A underwater housing with the EOS utilily out (USB I guess) - would be fantastic for us.
