Re: Spider Timelapse
Nice one, David. What did you shoot this one with?

Re: Spider Timelapse
Nicely done...but I think my head is still spinning.

Re: Spider Timelapse
Thanks, Mike. Shot it with a 5D with a 24-70mm and a 60D with a 70-200mm.

Re: Spider Timelapse
Thanks, I found the cameras and lenses on the Vimeo page but I’m really curious how you lit it. Is that camera flash, studio flash or continuous lighting? It looks very consistent from shot to shot.

I used continuous lighting. 2 Lowell 250s, no diffusion, set low and at about 90 degrees from the cameras close to parallel with the web. The trick was getting her to build the web in a pre-set spot. I solved that by setting up a C-stand on the camera right side raised all the way up that would serve as the anchor point each night. I had to make sure that was the only possible spot for her to anchor to, otherwise she just lets the silk fly and whatever it happens to catch becomes the anchor. Here is a pic of the set-up.

Re: Spider Timelapse
Thanks! Pretty ingenious using “spider psychology”. I like the use of the black backdrop.

Re: Spider Timelapse
Great film, but I would have put a close up of the spider at the end, so we could see the little guy.

Re: Spider Timelapse
Pretty cool, well thought out and yes I too would like to have seen the spider up close.
