I agree that we shouldn't need a permit when we are doing the same thing that the public is allowed to do. I also think it's bogus that my tripod is a "tripping hazard" in thermal area boardwalks when a Nat Geo photographer buddy of mine using the same one for his Nikon DSLR that he often flips to video when he's not taking stills and it isn't. NANPA lobbied to be specifically excluded from the permit law while no one stood up for filmmakers. The law was never intended to cover one camera and a tripod, it was drafted because a congressman didn't think it was right that all these taxpayer dollars were being used to help Steven Spielberg make a movie in places like Devil's Tower. That's what the law was created for, the NPS just perverted it to discourage people from shooting in the park and adding revenue to their bottom line. I just got back from filming in Yellowstone. I just don't use any of the footage for monetary purposes. I'll wait for Rosa to make an appearance before I do! :) |
