I'm a 34 year old lost soul who finds happiness, escape, and security in filming. It is contests like UWOL that have given me some precious memories both on film and off. We were able to complete two of the challenges and had a great deal of fun attempting two others. On the "Night" themed challenge we witnessed the seemingly supernatural powers of desert darkness and the unknown forces, something never to be forgotten. It is not always about the contest itself, but the emotion and memories created during.....sometimes those are worth many times more than the prizes and recognition.

my boy marco has it...the real value of this contest is in becoming one with the planetary magic...winning, schminning. anyone who has managed even one poetic moment like marco just described has already won the damn thing, in advance. congratulations on your big win, marco, you didn't even have to finish to land the biggest prize of them all....there's a reason we call them "tales of wonder and woe..."

i just love the desert...

and bruce, you just celebrated recently. now we hafta wait another year for your big bash! ah, we'll get there.

Per,

congratulations, I can think of no one that deserves it more than you do!!

As others have stated, I hope you can still be involved. you have truly been an inspiration.

I am more or less retired as of today. More time for everything, particularly filming.

Jumping in late here but hope to get into UWOL contests next year. Im 28 and working as a fulltime cameraman and Mac editor. Nature photography was (and still is) my passion and am branching out to macro video with my H1.

Am so glad I am here with so many like-minded ppl.

Cheers

yet another lurker unveiled! welcome to the gang, WeeHan...

we're looking forward to seeing some images from an amazing location.

Trond Saetre December 10th, 2007 05:30 PM

WeeHan, welcome to this awesome nature/wildlife video friendship/family.
I'm looking forward to see your films.

Thanks Meryem and Trond for the warm welcome! Its tough getting good stuff in tropical, extremely humid places like Singapore! But the subjects are plentiful...other than landscapes...we have almost no natural landscape.

Have got plenty of footage (my macro is done on a tripod 100% of the time due to the weight and mag rate) but still trying to piece them together to form a meaningful video.

Cheers

yet another lurker unveiled!

Hi everyone,
Finally got myself up and running so this year I will be able to enter this wonderful contest rather than being a side lines supporter.

I'm a 23 year old zoology graduate who has always wanted to make films which entertain, educate and inspire people about our fantastic natural world.

I'm going to make this dream into a career even if I have to live in a tent.

Looking forwards to learning from all you more experienced film makers.

Pete

hello, peter!

i just sent you an e-mail. here you are again. welcome to UWOL, those UK filmmakers are tough competitors, 2 of our six Challenge rounds last year were one by brits. vikings are doing their best to chase them down for world domination in nature and outdoors shooting, however. all of whom were edged out by a swede in the last round....

looking forward to seeing what you can add to the mix!

Sandy Watt January 31st, 2008 05:03 PM

Hello all,
thought i would introduce myself. im alexander, sandy for short. Im also a zoology graduate, and just completed a masters in biological photography last year. got into photography through my interest in coservation and wildlife and from that evolved into film. Ive made a couple of films in kenya and trinidad and was meant to be going back out to kenya to teach film making to some locals but a new job and the current situation there has put a hold on that. I dont currently own a camera but looking to invest in something soon enough to get something in for this months uwol...so looking forward to it!!

Marco Wagner January 31st, 2008 05:51 PM

You're great Meryem! Have you seen my latest commercial? Straight from the pages of my last horror experience, complete with boiler room. It's on the frontpage of my website, you may like it muhahah ah ah ah ahh. I was ducked tape, bound, and beaten!

Marco Wagner January 31st, 2008 07:34 PM

I'm game, tee hee

Meryem Ersoz January 31st, 2008 09:30 PM

Marco Wagner January 31st, 2008 09:35 PM

Hey everyone, 34 yr old editor in training here. I have a fair bit of experience operating camera, which I love doing, but I want to finish up my schooling in the editing field and begin the long arduous task of gaining notoriety... err, I mean credibility as an editor. Uwol looks like it will be fun as long as i don't go nutty trying to come up with original ideas lol.

I entered Dvc 7 I believe it was and got shot down in glorious smoke and flames. I'm now back to torture(bless) your eyes with wonderful images of the natural world MuuuWaaahahaha.

Cheers
