Bob,
I truly enjoyed watching your film! I really liked the close ups and bet in full res they would be spectacular!! I thought the naration was good but a couple times would have liked a little more information on a species. the clip of lonesome george I really could not make out the turtle. If it is hd perhaps you could crop it a bit for emphesis!! I look forward to the finished product. |
Hey Bob ! You made it there....wow I'm very envious!
I liked your narration although I think you need to find more in way of a story on which the hang both the film and the sequences. I like the travellers guide feel of the piece but it somehow need more. A search for something, something or some information you (and us) are looking to find out. This will give the piece a better angle and add some suspense and keep people watching. I think the footage on the whole is nice. It could have used a tripod in places and the shot movement a little more controlled but I do like what you've got. Oh I love the surf coming up behind the Booby....great shot and very Galapagos in feel...lovely! It may also be worth dropping the sound track in places because it has little value and doesnt add anything. Maybe this is a good chance to use some score and or other background/foley sounds. All in all I want some more...so your doing the right thing! Just give me something to wait for and some more information and story and i think your piece will be even better! Cheers Mat |
Hi Bob.
Well you really do show us a varation of species. Can't say other than I do envy your trip to The World of Darwin :) When it comes to storyline, I'm not sure what way it'll take, or what you're aiming at. But I fully agreed with Mat in that matter. Nice shots and angles. I guess your soundtrack will be modified in the end? Take a way unnecessary noice/sound, people speaking, etc. But if I refer to your first ULF video I think your story will be an adventure like, am I right or am I wrong? All the best. Geir Inge |
Sorry for the late reply, I just got back from doing a video in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Thanks for all your comments. I wish I could have used a tripod, but much to hard to get it into and out of a "ponga" with other people in it. I also realize that I need to work on the audio. Definately need to get rid of the background chatter. And, I need to beef up the story. I want to add more on the wildlife as well as some information on the different islands. I must say, it was a dream trip and I would do it again in a New York minute.

Have to agree - you certainly have some beautiful shots there Bob. What an experience. Some of the species are really intriguing and I am curious to find out more about them. Looking forward to your next installment!

Hello to all. I am sorry to be late, but I did upload The Galapagos long form to UWOL. It is a continuation of my travels to the Galapagos Islands. This evening I will post the updated version on UTube. As it is over 10 minutes long I will cut the first parts that you have already seen. Also, as I got behind in things I have not added a lot of the detailed narration about the islands such as population, limiting factors in growth and eradication of non-native animals. This will be included in the final version. Enjoy. Bob

Looking forward to seeing the version on You Tube when it's up!

Bob- You’ve done some fabulous work here. Doubly so because you had so few days to shoot everything. Congratulations. I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished piece with all the parts in the right place! See you next month.

Finally had a chance to look at your entry. Really nice and I loved the frigitbird!! The finished rendition is going to be really nice I am certain and I can't wait to see it!!

Hey Bob
Great stuff and a pleasure to watch. I love the Iggys, hopefully one day I'll get to see them myself! - On the whole I think much of my critique from the last round plays true. I think the piece felt like it needed more structure/premise/story holding it together. Some of the sequences felt a little haphazard and mixed up but this is probably an extension of the same issue. Some great footage and I like some of your relaxed narration. Great stuff Bob ! Looking forward to seeing the whole peice togther :-) |
Hi Bob:
This film footage takes my breath away. What an exceptional trip you were able to go on. Not only the sites were captivating with such diverse and foreign wildlife, but the sounds too! This is a treasure trove of documented nature. You have a nice narration voice and it fits well into your piece. Looking forward to the full feature to get lost in. Congratulations. Cat |
Bob
GREAT stuff... to think you had but a few days to do all your capture. The images were sharp, nicely balanced and your editing was 'invisible". I especially like your narrating. Did you spend some time in post with the footage? It is incredibly nicely balanced, and pleasant to the eye without harsh contrast etc. I'm glad you are taking us along on this one in a lifetime voyage! Chris |
Bob,
Beautiful footage. A pleasure to watch. I especially enjoyed the audio. Those are very difficult sounds to get. My only comment is that you introduced the Red-footed Booby while showing a pair of Masked boobies. |
Why is it when Steve starts talking about a pair of.....well you know, I blush and then giggle like a schoolboy?
Oh nevermind. Carry on. Chris (masked?.... Well I guess it it IS Halloween) |
Hey everyone, thanks for the input. Matt, you are right, once I get the video and sound track completed I will add a lot more information on the geology, history and wildlife. Steve, I had to look at that section several times before it dawned on me what you were referring to. Thank yo, I rearranged the clips so the red footed boobie comes up first. Chris, I did relatively little ib post. I have my XL-2 fine tuned to give me the color I like. Plus, it was all shot with a polorizing filter. I shot over 5 hours of video at the Galapagos and another two hours at Machu Picchu. I have not even started on that. The Galapagos Islands were truely a wonderful experiance, and our guide and professional protographer let you spend all the time you wanted setting up shots. Unfortunately, getting in and out of those pangas make it impossibly to carry a tripod so all shots were hand held. Bob

Bob,
It is a fantastic wildlife you have for the long form. So many animals in different situations and close ups. I am looking forward to seeing the final version. |
Hi Bob
I have really enjoyed watching all the strange and wonderful creatures that you found on your trip to the Galapagos! Really fascinating - especially watching some of their extraordinary strategies and behavior. I agree with others - your film will go up a few more notches if you gave us a bit of background information to the place and to some of the habits and behavior of the more interesting species you managed to find. Stunning place to visit. Marj |
Wonderful piece Bob, you're talking us all on the journey - looking forward to the end result!

Hi all, here is my Final LongForm entry. Enjoy! Bob

Bob...
I watched your entry last evening. I must say that inspite of the tight time constraints you had to shoot your film, you managed to make a nearly perfect film on the variety of life in the Galapagos, make it interesting. and keep the viewer's interest. Your titles were well done and the soundtrack was about as good as I can image anyone doing. The VO was very listenable, and the narration interesting. Professional !!! My only minor critique/suggestion is that to me, your ending was a little abrupt. Might I suggest that maybe you do a 30second reprise of the trip at the end? Having "been there - done that" I have found myself caught without footage to cut to, in, or otherwise use... the "reprise" might soften the ending a little. Just an idea. Like I said almost a year ago - "Take us with you!" ...and you DID ! Thank you for a wonderful film ! Chris S. ps. I cannot say enough about your sound levels, mix, etc...best soundtrack so far. Edits were very pleasing as well. pps. Oh! The prop plane foley with a jet on the screen may need a little retooling, maybe? <g>. |
Bob,
I watched your full video this morning. You did a fine job cronicling your trip to the islands. I was very impressed with the fact that you use no music in the back ground and you still hold it together for the entire show. Twice I thought there was a little long bit of actual silence, but perhaps that is a good thing demonstrating the lack of noise we seem to almost expect. The voice over was smooth and totally uniform throughout, first class. You did a good job showing the diversity of wildlife and I liked the fact that it was not catigorized or such, just as it unfolded or at least appeared that way, great Job. I must agree that the end did seem a tad sudden/abrupt. Your gentle slow pace to the entire half hour was awesome, a more gentle end would be fitting. thanks for taking us along on the trip, I learned some new cool stuff. |
