Condolences

Meryem...my deepest sympathies and condolences.

It has all been said above. Dogs love us unconditionally. In their brief, bright time on earth the special ones like your Violet infuse us with validation and acceptance, joy, warmth and a love few other creatures can show so easily.

They touch our souls in ways that mark us permanently. May you always rejoice in the Violet marks in your being.

Chris

Meryem,
my deepest sympathy for your loss. I know your feelings right now, as I have been going trough the same a couple of times in my life!

Ruth Happel March 9th, 2009 03:01 PM

Meryem,

I'm really sorry to hear about losing Violet. It is SO hard. We lost Decker, another UWOLer, just over a year ago, and "replaced" him last August with his cousin, Siggy. It isn't the same, but I can't imagine being without a dog for long. I hope, in time, you can find another canine companion to share your outdoor explorations.

I've been through this before as well. It's just that there are pets...and then there are pets. V-dog was one of those special ones. Someone once referred to her as a "unicorn" because she had such a sweet and angelic vibe. An oddly apt description.

Thanks for all of your kindness and understanding. I ran away for the weekend, and that seemed to help.

I guess it is time to start a short-form contest sign-up soon! Back to our regularly scheduled program.

Meryem,

What a great dog gives to ones soul is far greater than what they take when they leave!!! It still hurts.

And of course, they make room for another to eat their way into our souls and start a new era of adventures.

Hey Meryem, sorry to hear about your loss. A good dog really is family.

Catherine Russell March 13th, 2009 01:42 PM

Oh Meryem:

I'm so sorry. But it's bitter sweet too! You gave each other your all in love. There is something deep about the death of our beloved animals. Animals are so darn loving, loyal, joyful, stoic and never complain in pain or in death. We have so much to learn from them!

May you have good grief at this time. The kind of grief that is filled with love and good memories but not despairing. Violet would never want that!

No wonder UWOL is what it is if she is the inspiration that founded it.

Love to you both,

Cat

thanks again, friends, for your understanding expressions. i have felt very sad all week, but all of your kindnesses really help. dale, you have a lot of wisdom about dogs.

Chris needs a "dogs of DVinfo" pin-up calendar, since we're all such suckers for the fur people....

Belated condolences, Meryem, from this part-time UWOLer.

The love of a dog is special and unique, and you certainly had a very special one in Violet, and can give thanks for all the love and happiness that she brought.

A line from a song comes to mind, where the topic is life and death, and how you should live for the moment and be grateful for your lot in life: "....the only thing to be sad about, are the dogs and the horses we have to outlive..."

Virtual hugs.

Meryem,

My condolences as well. That's just terrible when this happens--she looked like a beautiful dog too. I lost my dog "Wolf" around this time 3 years ago and still think about him quite often.
