Re: UWOL 40 - Tales of wonders and woes

I have had a crazy idea and must be mad to try it. I have just got a Sony AX53 for filming the family. I am more a custom to using pro cameras over my 25 years using all manual controls - thats the way I like it; So part of my personal challenge is to make a short film with the AX53 with all of its restrictions and how to work around them.

The idea itself is nut, but I'm keeping it under wraps for now, untill I work out the logistics of it and obtain permission to film. Stay tuned....

Sometimes craziness is what it takes to push our limits and test new things, and hopefully learn from it.

It's been quiet here. How is everyone doing?
Hope you all do well.

Rats. After an afternoon of scouting yielded no signs of the rock chucks I planned to feature, I did some online searching and found that the little varmints are in hibernation already. So, unless a quick and easy idea that sounds interesting presents itself, I'm out.

Plenty time left until deadline, Lorinda! I'm sure you can do it.

Re: UWOL 40 - Tales of wonders and woes

I’ve had a bit of woe myself. I returned from a filming trip to find that my main editing computer had developed a leak in the CPU cooler. Liquid had dripped all over the mother board and graphics card. Thankfully, it was unplugged from the mains while I was gone. I pulled it apart, cleaned everything with ether and put it back together, then installed a new cooler. (No hibernating around here. It is still too hot for it to run with just a fan.) Everything is working again- including me. The wonder now is whether the down time will prevent completion. I still have a few elements to collect and this idea is rather edit intensive. The race is now on. As Trond likes to remind us, still plenty of time…

Sorry about the sleepy chucks, Lorinda. I have had to discard ideas for various challenges because they were in the wrong season for the subject. Also because they required shots from two very different seasons. I would like to see another long challenge. Not necessarily another long form but one that runs for longer than a month to allow a whole other class of stories to be told. Anyway, I’m hoping you come up with a Plan B idea. I have been looking forward to watching videos from you, Meryem and Chris!

This might happen sometime. It's an interesting idea.

Hi there.
Hope you found some virtual project to showcase in this 40th round of UWOL.
Sorry to hear the rock chucks are hibernating, Lorinda. Maybe you can fix something else?
I've looked forward to seeing films from both you and Meryem, this round.
Not to offend anyone, looking forward to all the movies, but you two have had a long break and you are missed :)
I myself am a little in doubt I can deliver this round, I have a lot to keep you busy at the moment.
Still, I've found time for two trips that both were intended recording with drone.
I always check the batteries are fully charged, why can not I check the other important things as well? It's a mystery to me.
First trip I had forgotten the cable between the monitor and remote control.
Well, at a local grocery store I met two handsome ladies who lent me a cable.
It could charge the battery, but not transfer images / movies.
Tour number two, I forgot something then?
Hmm, I forgot the memory card to the drone. I got it fixed?
Yep, I borrowed a memory card of helpful fellow who lived near location.
In both episodes, no one knew me or asked questions about my name or where I came from.
Still are honest and helpful people out there, it gave me an eye-opener and I am eternally grateful.

I hope nobody goes in hibernation, but joins and makes this round of Uwol into something special.

Attached is a picture from my second trip.

Cheers!

Just trying to upload a picture file from my aurora borealis :)
file size 650 kb

Re: UWOL 40 - Tales of wonders and woes

Nice picture, Geir!
I wonder if the actual size limit is less than the forum indicates and that might be the reason we had issues when trying to upload pictures from the get-together event.
The pictures I tried were in the 2,5-4 MB size range.

time is indeed running out, and for me, due to various situations I haven't even started anything yet!

Hopefully I work better under pressure.

My original plan was to make a film in Bristol last week, but don't think I have enough footage for that to happen. Off to the think tank again.
Still plenty time left :)

I have a plan, but am still working on some details of how to shoot. With luck, I should have time to complete an entry.

Went out after work to do some filming.
Bugs are still terrible here.
Realized that I may be too late to film what I wanted for Plan A so off
to Plan B

Thank you Vishal, perhaps next time. I had to cancel both hotel and flight this time.

I see there are more who are struggling with their plans / ideas.
I cross my fingers and hope the ideas will come to you.
On my little part of the world, we experience the all-time most wonderful October weather.
This time I can not blame the weather, but rather lack of time :)
Maybe something shows up at the last minute?

Remember to request the upload details for vimeo at uwol@dvinfo.net

(Better to get the upload info early than miss the deadline...)

How time flies. I got a few of the shots I wanted, but the sunset has been hard to catch, with all the ranch work here. I've been trying to get a horse stampede, but every time we call them, for feeding this week, they just walk up like they're too tired to perform.

Well hopefully I can come up with some footage, with no real plan, to use today. Kind of do or die!

Pretty much done with the edit. Just need two words or two groups of words to describe the first part and then transition to the second part.
Hopefully I'll figure out what too put in by tomorrow! :)

Re: UWOL 40 - Tales of wonders and woes

Ran out of time on this one. Too much happening all at once in my life. So this was my idea. The short version.

It was a scripted short film set in the near future. A young archaeologist is battling against the weather elements as they hike in a desert like environment. On their journey they come across a number of mile stones, like a ship wreck of an old wooden fishing boat. Each of these mile stones would contain the theme of the past 40 competitions embedded in the picture in a subtle way. Like the name of the boat, sign post of places, etc. At the end they find a time capsule containing a database of all our films. Postcard from the past. I was going to do a extreme wide shot that includes a half destroyed moon to imply that man has eradicated the Earth of it beauty.

Interesting idea, Mark. Too bad you ran out of time.
Would be cool if you were able to make that film later.

Re: UWOL 40 - Tales of wonders and woes

Nothing done, only could shoot for 2 days and got a few sequences however couldnt make a effective story out of it, So its that Shark tank for me after all.

Truth be told, apart from the 2 days of shooting i simply watched films from Wildscreen and still watching them.
