UWOL 52 Animal Kingdom by Dale Guthormsen

Dale, hope you don't mind I'm making this feedback thread for you. You made a good film and deserve feedback, just like the other entries.

Here is Dale's UWOL52 entry:

Hi Dale,

Your film had a lovely feel right from the start and the good spread of wildlife and wide/close shots gave a real sense of the space.

The narration was excellent and worked in harmony with the music. On the subject of music, I noticed the credit there - did you compose it yourself? If so doubly well done.

Henry

Hi Dale,

Good to see you back up and running in the challenges. hopefully things are getting a little easier for you now,

Lovely to hear your softly spoken melodic narration once again that really does draw you into one with nature. On this occasion maybe the balance between the V/O and sound track needed tweaking slightly to bring the V/O volume up a tad.

Great selection of wildlife that must have been difficult to locate bearing in mind the vastness of the plains where you live.

Well done, and again so good to see you back here

Mick

Dale, you sure got some beautiful country up there. The shot of the open fields around 2:20 was great. It showed the vastness of the plans. Your narration was smooth, but it was a little soft. Maybe it is just my speakers but sometimes I had a hard time hearing you. Loved the shot of the pronghorn, it really showed the heat and helped make the shot more realistic. I also like the way you talked about each creature in its own environment. Hope to see more of your work. Bob

Hi Dale, welcome back to UWOL!

The calm, relaxed pace of your film, was really nice. I enjoyed watching it.
Looks like you were battling the haze of a warm summer day, but that kinda gave a little extra "life" to your film. Cool!

As an intro, maybe the wide shot at 2:20 could be used first, to let the audience get a feeling of the area? Just a thought.

Your VO was sometimes overpowered by the music. Try increase the volume of the VO and reduce the soundtrack. This would make it a lot easier to hear what you are saying.

Well done, and thanks for sharing.

Thank you the comments. I agree with the constructive criticism, I agree with each of them. havent done voice over in years and it shows!
To be honest I built it as I shot it and didnt even think about making a shot list as one should.
I intend to do much better this fall. plan a lot of video this year!

tomorrow im going out as summer native prairie flowers are in blossom nicely.

Thank you all for the nice comments and constructive criticism!

Bob its great to see you're still on board!!

Hope there are more entries in the fall! see you there.

I really loved the shot at 2:30 -- no critters, but the wind makes the prairie look like a rolling sea.

Which as I understand is what the pioneer immigrants thought of it when they first came through, reminding them of their ocean journey to reach the new land.

I thought you captured that look quite well. Great job!

Yes that was what I was going for as I feel it all the times, it is only better in fall golds. To be honest I thought it was my only good shot.
I' m glad someone noticed. thanks chris
