LCD monitor resolution question

I'm looking at possibly adding an external LCD monitor to my camera(s) equipped with DoF adapters. I'm looking at a 7" widescreen and noticed two apparent flavors:

one is 480x234 (and if these are like the el cheapo head-rest DVD player monitors I have, they work but are far from ideal): Amazon.com: Pyle PLVHR75 7'' High Resolution TFT LCD Monitor w//Headrest Frame & Stand Bracket: Electronics

While this one says it's 1440x234: SBHCORP.COM - Lanzar SVHR7M 7" TFT-LCD Headrest Monitor which seems to be a very odd resolution (but anything is possible - these could be tall and skinny pixels).

Has anyone used anything similar, or are they unusable? Thanks.

234 lines is slightly worse than regular VHS. I bought a couple of 7" monitors with this resolution and they are useless for focus or color. Composition alone, okay.

Thanks. That's pretty much what I thought. Do you know if the 1440 is real? I've seen this resolution many times but it just seems like a misprint.

Hi Paul,

I'd suggest the Sony DVP-FX820 DVD Player. It Rocks.

Also, a bit larger, the Insignia IS-PDVD10 (a 10.2" screen) does nicely.

I use both with my HV30 and my TRV920.

The 1440 is real, but a bit misleading. In terms of resolution, it should actually be 480, but they have counted the R, G and B pixels separately so they multiply by 3.

Paul, the SmallHD DP1 is very close to release, and I think it will be the perfect monitor for your needs.

SmallHD.com - 8.9" High Definition - the DP1

Many thanks for the replies.

So the 1440 is 480x3 for the RGB - that's rather cheeky, but hardly unexpected.

I'll look into the Sony DVP-FX820 and DP1!
