Marshall V-CLD50 review

Initial impression is very good.

It is a rugged feeling little monitor, very sharp picture. Solid feel and logical menu system. And very good control button system.

I only had time to test it for 30 minutes or so yesterday. I had it on a Canon 5DmkII.

I will write a more in depth review in the next few days, but initial impression is very good.

The size is what I really like, I have both 7" Marshall and a Ikan 9" (HD portable monitors, better than old SD Pany and Sony small screen they replaced in my kit), these are all better than SD but not full HD.

I found the screen bright (No sun yesterday so I did not test it in full sun yet) color is very good.

The menu system is very logical and the adjustments easy, for me at least. There are 4 customizable buttons, initially I set them to:

1. Peaking, I found this a little hard to work with. It seems to peak on almost any high contrast line even when slightly out of focus. It is probably fine, I will experiment more and learn exactly how to use it, it is a great feature though.

2. False Color, this I really like although it may scare bystanders with it garish colors. In conjunction with the histogram in the Canon I think exposure will now be very easy an the 5DmkII.

3. PX-PX display, this is great, many screens now have it and it is perfect way to nail focus, it works in conjunction with the peaking as well.

4. Aspect, this I found a little confusing at least with the 5D, that outputs different signals when in different modes (recording, monitoring, playback or various info modes). I will probably not use this when I figure out the right aspect for the 5DmkII as it may be confusing if you push it by mistake. I was in a hurry.

As I said this was my initial impressions, I plan to dedicate this monitor to my 5DmkII and 7D. I have plans to make a loupe for it as well as a special mount for my rail system I am working on for DSLR's.

I will post more here soon and include some photos as well.
