Opinions on 12v battery for monitor
 

I have a killer IDX VL-2 charger and Endura 7s battery and power adapter. It will undoubtedly get a good price on ebay or Craigslist. I'm thinking of selling it and getting something like this: DC 12V 6800mAh Super Rechargeable Lithium-ion Battery - eBay (item 320494008476 end time Feb-21-11 07:59:17 PST).

Can I expect reasonable performance from a $40 battery for powering a monitor? Or should I hang on to my IDX, which new, would cost about $1200.

The monitor is an inexpensive one.

I use a Tekkeon MP3450. Works very well. Around $100.

If you are looking for something cheaper I would go to Walmart and pick up a small 12 volt Lawn and Tractor battery. You can charge it up with any automotive battery charger.

+1 for the Tekkeon MP3450. I wouldn't trust a 40-dollar obscure battery... the Tekkeons are very reliable, safe, and perform incredibly well.

yeah, a bit "me too" for the 3450, except I wish I had sprung the extra for a 3450i. Its like $140, but the voltage is set by dip switches and has less chance of accidental overload. I love the 3450 because I don't just use it on monitors. It can power just about anything and has come in handy SO many times as emergency power for anything from laptops to cellphones to running my cool lights 600led for a few hours.

I also bought a tekkeon 3750 but i HATE it. It does auto-voltage selecting, but that means it always goes right to the upper end of a devices voltage range. Like, the dp6 can run from 5 to 18v, and it tries to push 19v out to it unless you force it into manual mode.

Another thing to hate about the 3750 is unlike the 3450 it doesn't regulate the power input. You can use the 3450 as a universal voltage adapter. Plug it in, set the voltage and it will power anything from the wall. I thought the 3750 worked the same way but had a near-death experience when flicking on the power and the 3750 passed the full 19v from the tekkeon power supply into my dr-680 which maxes at 12v. It freaked out and stopped working but a full reset fixed her back up. (and to continue my chain of side tangents... kudos to tascam for making the device protect itself in some way other than a plume of smoke)

Compared to the IDX... there is no comparison. If your monitor is lcd, you can probably power it for 8 or so hours with the tekkeon or possibly the ebay battery. If you keep the IDX, you can probably power the monitor for closer to 36 hours for those really really long high school theater performances. (maybe they just feel like 36 hours)

Well my IDX isn't getting much love on ebay so far, so sounds like I might be better off just keeping it. It's a beast of a system.
