Correctly calibrating/setting up a PAL TV/monitor

Okay. I have a (I hope simple) question. I've seen lots of papers
on the internet and various places on how to setup a NTSC monitor
correctly (with color bars and whatnot).

But how about PAL monitors?? My XL1s can generate compliant
color bars for PAL and I would love a detailed explanation on how
to setup a monitor for PAL because it differs from NTSC.

Does someone know, can point me in another direction etc.?

Thanks!

Not exactly sure what you mean. Is it in regards to cabling or 'correct' colours or...?

Sorry - I must have misread you question...

I assume you mean how to adjust your monitor to get the 'correct' colours and setting it up in reference to the bars.

It all depends on what monitor you're using. If you have a good reference monitor you would have a button on the front labelled 'blue only'. This is a good way to start calibrating it, press it in when you have the bars showing, and you should start seing black-ish and white-ish stripes going across the screen. Adjust the brightness, contrast and chroma until they look black and white - or at least each field looks similar to the others. This might take some fiddling around, but you should be able to get close. This should be a fairly good representation of the image you get through the camera.

Hope this helps.

Regards
Jon
