Well the principal advantage is for manufacturers of BNC connectors. But I really don't know of any signal advantage. I suppose it's a more secure mechanical connection, thus ensuring that equipment at both ends is destroyed in the event of a wire trip.

Hilarious.

The advantage of BNC connectors is that they lock and don't fall off or come loose at the wrong time. Most professional equipment uses BNC connectors.

Steve,

Most "pro" monitos ONLY have BNC connectors. So if you want
to view anything you will need to hook it up through BNC.

After Effects has indeed no output to firewire for its preview so
you will need that Echo Fire product. The new Vegas 4 NLE seems
to offer some very good color correction tools and these all work
on the firewire out (EVEN with the split-screen!)

Cheers,

The built-in color correction controls in FCP 3.0 are more than adequate for most people. I would say you should learn how to use color correction 'well' before you go out and spend $600 for color correction software other than what FCP has to offer.
