From VGA to BNC

I'm planning to buy the Xenarc 7" but I want to connect it through BNC. Is there a way I can connect a single BNC cable coming from my camera to the Xenarc VGA input?

Thanks,

Guess nobody knows?

A simple cable adapter is not sufficient to convert BNC to VGA.

What signal is on the BNC cable. Is it composite, SDI, HD-SDI, etc.?

Depending on the signal, you may be able to find a electronic converted that will drive a VGA monitor. BlackMagic Design may have what you need.

I found this website:

would it be sufficient to buy this cable so I can connect an LCD screen like one of Xenarc to my camcorder with s-video out?

Thx,

Sorry, but no.

The full description is here:

This adapter takes a VGA adapter card with TV-Out and provides a composite video output jack and/or a S-Video output jack.

The following is from their website:

VIDEO Card to S. Video and TV Adapter Cable

Connector: VGA(HD15) Male to S-Video Female and RCA(Composite) Jack
Cable: UL 2919 Coaxial Low Voltage Cable

(*)It will work with VGA cards that has TV-Out function capability through the VGA connector.
Check your Video Card manual or manufacturer to make sure that your VGA card has TV-Out function capability.

So there isn't a way I can use a monitor from Xenarc as a video assist with my FX1?
I'm sry if this sounds like a stupid question!

Dan Keaton February 16th, 2007 09:16 AM

What signal are you trying to connect to the monitor?

The Sony FX1 has composite out, S-Video out, and component out.

I may be mistaken, but from the manual, none appear to be using BNC connectors.

What inputs are there available on your Xenarc? Which model Xenarc do you have?

Mmm intresting, specially when I'm going to use the Xenarc (which I didn't buy yet) for focussing and framing.
I found out that the Xenarc 700YV also has RCA so I could make a connection.
Do you think you could compare this with the Varizoom TFT7? Both connect to the camera trough RCA while the Xenarc has a higher resolution then the Varizoom.

Thx again ;)

xenarc monitor and FX-1

The only way you can use that monitor at full resolution is to take the component RGB out and convert it to VGA through an electronic box. Details of this conversion I have posted before on this site- do a search for Xenarc. This is the only way you can use that monitor for accurate focusing. If you a fine with not so good focusing but at least performance/framing capability then you can just hook the camera up directly to the RCA input on the monitor via your RCA output. But be aware that it is then a composite, standard definition signal and no longer hi-def.

sorry to disagree, keith, but what you said isn't exactly true. RGB and VGA are both analog signals, so, no converter box is necessary. All you need is a converter cable, VGA on one end and 3 component RCA's on the other. I do it all the time to inject component out on my camera to a 21 inch LCD screen.

Piet Deyaert February 19th, 2007 07:11 AM

So actually I can buy this: http://www.virtualinformation.com/eb...es/vga-1lg.jpg

And then connect it to my s-video out, and the VGA from the Xenarc?

VGA vs. RCA

Certainly you can convert the end of the cable - I was advising on how to get an HD image out of that camera- The S video image is not Hi-def and neither is the RCA out of that camera or any other HDV camera on the market. The only way you get HD resolution out is through the three component analog signals. If you plug those directly into a converter cable to VGA then you can only get an image on a VGA monitor if it supports the specific resolution the camera is giving, if it has built in scaling capability, if it has multiple ground syncing capability, and if it can handle the individual Hrz frequencies on the three signals + ground sync. In my experience there are very few small LCD monitors out there that can do this- the Xenarc being the exception. Many larger monitors however do have such capabilities though most of them now are offering direct component in, so it makes this conversion all unecessary. Anyway I was advising on adapting for the small LCD which this forum started out with. By the way- I have tried plugging the Xenarc 7" directly with the converter cable only and it does not work because the sync is out of range even though the xenarc does have extensive built-in scaling. The converter box I use by audio authority effectively controls the ground sync (though not perfectly because there is a green shift) and puts it in range for the monitor to accept the signal.

Hello Keith,
I am trying to connect my xenarc to HVX via component out > Mayflash VGA transcoder > Xenarc. I can get a decent image when I connect the av cables and select av1 on the monitor; However, when I try to run the comp>vga adapter>monitor set up I don't get a picture on av1,av2, or PC (or anywhere). What am I missing? Is there a setup menu issue here to get the component out to work or should it work as soon as the cable is plugged in? Would appreciate some help.

Steven Fokkinga February 28th, 2007 03:10 PM

Probably redundant, but did you plug in the power of the mayflash? It might work without power on SD and only with power on HD. Just a thought.

Steven
