Yes, another 5D Mark II Wedding Videos.

This time we put the 5D Mark II on Stradicam Merlin with a 17mm Wide Angle lens to record the first dance. The result was beautiful! We also test the camera in a low light situation with fireworks display. The reception took place inside stunning Auckland Museum.

Very nice! so the Merlin works well with the 5D2 huh? Did you shoot with the 17-40 f/4 lens or 17-35 f/2.8? What is the heaviest EF lens you can use with the 5D2 on the merlin?

thx yang!

It was a Sigma 17-35 mm F2.8.

For me the heaviest I can use is Sigma 17-35 mm F2.8, not because of the weight but because of the difficulty on focus. The other camera operator can use it with EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. we've got a EF70-200mm f/2.8 but never try it on Merlin.

I think 5D2 is perfect with Merlin because the size of two of them together are still small enough to go to some high and low angle. It create some interesting new footage for us!

SiChung: did you run the Merlin handheld or with a vest? I'm thinking of adding a stabilizer to my kit but since I shoot along I like the the fact that the Merlin has a tripod attachment at the bottom..

SiuChung Leung February 22nd, 2009 09:41 PM

We do it handheld.

About tripod...We mount the EF70-200mm f/2.8 on a tripod. (yes, mount the lens on tripod)

After we fly around with Merlin and want to do some close up we will just took off the lens and steadicam then attach 5D2 to EF70-200mm f/2.8.

Greetings,

I'm glad to know that the 5D will fly on the Merlin; however, the shots didn't seem as smooth as they should be, and none of the stabilized shots seemed to stand out. They seemed overused; yet, never used to the full potential.

Many of the non-flying shots looked spectacular, though!
