New Highlights all the way from Guernsey
 

Hi Guys,

I have not posted here for a long long time but just thought i would share my latest highlights from my first wedding of the year here in Guernsey. Shooting on 5d iii and 5d ii with 50mm 1.4,16-35 2.8, 70-200 2.8, 24-105 f4. Shot and colour graded on FCP this was a one man shoot.

Nothing much to say, thought it was great. Liked the colours. Liked the music. Wish I could do a job half as good when I'm shooting by myself and capture as many nice moments as beautifully framed. (For that matter, wish I could do a job half as good when I'm shooting with other people.)

In terms of any sort of critique, I don't know. Probably as good a one-person shoot as I've seen. Can quibble with particular shots, but it's all subjective. For instance, the angle of the makeup shot at 0:21 struck me as a bit operating table-ish, and the angle at 0:39 as a bit dominant, as if you're lying on top of the bride.

Appreciated the natural sound with the bottle pop at 0:36.

Liked that you showed the back of the couple walking at the start of the video, then close with their faces towards the end.

Particularly liked the dress and shoes shots at 1:55. Interesting angle and composition, loved the colours, and great moment with the dress blowing. Thought it was interestingly balanced with the following shots -- because you've got the space on the right side of the frame for the shoe shots, and then the space on the left with the hugging and posing for the photograph shot, and the the arm holding the bouquet points towards the right of frame again.

Some of the dancing shots struck me as beautiful as well -- the couple's kiss on right of frame on the dance floor, and the the blurry bokeh shot following.

This is really impressive work. The shots, the grading, the editing...pretty much all around. I would never have guessed (or believed) you were a solo shooter. Congrats.

(Regarding the solo shooter comments): actually what I really love about Luke's work (along with all the gorgeous things already cited here by everyone) is that it DOES have the feel of a solo shooter (in a very positive sense). You don't have sequences that cry out "look at all the angles [we] got just for getting angles sake", but instead, you thrive on the fact of being a solo shooter and bring out the artistry of what shooting solo -- and editing solo work -- can yield. At its best (such as the case with Luke), solo shooting is very intimate, very direct story telling -- and it takes away a potential pitfall of the contrivances of multi-angle shooting.
