Loved it, Phil!
The grading gives it a real nostalgic and classy feel. All the interviewees were very charming. Loved the DOF in your shots! The rolling clouds scenes were so surreal that they looked like a composite. Quick question: In the introduction of the bridesmaids, you got a closeup of the little boy, Dylan, saying, "I'm not a bridesmaid!" Did you have him re-enact that or did you zoom in post? It was a nice touch, that closeup. Great job and quite inspirational! Can't wait to see the rest of it. I'm sure it would look fantastic in full-res HD! Maybe an h.264 encode for the web? Cheers, Peter P.S. Although I am a fan of Steadicam and use it heavily, I felt that your Merlin shot didn't fit in with the tone of the overall piece. If anything, your documentary gave me a newfound appreciation of good, stable tripod shots to set the context. It seems more your style than the Steadicam walk through the streets, IMHO. |
Cheers! The dof was just achieved by getting some distance and being wide open, would have been better with a two third inch camera or better still a 35mm adaptor but the half inch xdcam is a cracking camera and it is capable of producing such stunning results, especially with the over and undercranking. The first two shots are overcranked at 50fps. Will def do a high res version on my site soon.
I asked the boy later in the interview if he was wearing a bridesmaid dress and got the reaction i wanted for my closeup! Phil P.s. Steadicam was used very miminally in the finished film |
Phil:
Who sings the song on the last part? Thanks, John |
Doris Day: Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps

Nice mate.

Hey Phil,
That was pretty darn incredible. Would love to see a higher quality version of that. Too often, "documentary style" is used as another way of saying "clean up edit" but you've proven that when done right, the docu style can be every bit as engaging as any slow motion clip out there. Excellent cinematography and story telling. Rock on! Also, the shot at 8:23 is priceless! Chris W Watson Videography www.dallasweddingfilms.com |

Phil,
I can't see any of your film clips in either Firefox or Safari. All I see is a flashing FLV icon where a video is presumably supposed to be... |
that's weird. Just just on a PC and two different macs. They all work...

Great job. Is this piece of music public domain or did you get the rights? If not, I would be careful about showing your video so much and advertising a potential legal problem. Music, the bain of the wedding videographer's existence. Just my .02 cents |
