highlights clip to share

Hey all,

Another highlights clip for you to trash.

www.nosmallroles.com/h264.mov

My apologies for the large file. I encoded it in Quicktime Pro, and must have chosen the wrong bitrate. Sure looks better, though!

16:9. I shot in HDV with my Z1, downconverted in camera and edited in DV with Avid Xpress Pro.

Thanks in advance for any critique. I always learn lots, and use your feedback to colour my future work.

Looks pretty good! Do you shoot everything at 60i/60p? Because there are some nice slowmo's there.

Vito DeFilippo August 18th, 2007 07:03 AM

Yes, it's all 60i. The Z1 doesn't do progressive.

Thanks for checking it out!

Just uploaded a smaller file (same link). Still big, but more manageable.

Thanks again for any comments.

Very nice.
One thing: some b&w shots like at 1:27 and 2:14 seem to have a higher contrast then the rest. Did you do that on purpose? A little disturbing to me.
For the rest excellent work.

Beautiful. The only part I'm not so sure about is where you freeze the couple near the end after a few flashes from the photographer. The first time through it just felt like there were too many flashes. That's it, though. Great video!

Vito DeFilippo August 21st, 2007 02:28 PM

Hi Winfried,

Good eye! Those two shots were overexposed in the original footage, and I needed to lower the brightness and boost the contrast more than I wanted to get something acceptable.

Travis,

I wasn't sure about that either, though I ended up liking it. Though it could be more elegant, that's for sure...

Thanks to you both for checking it out. I was starting to think no one liked me, hehe...

Cheers,
Vito

Naw, we like you. I just had to pull two overnighters in a row, so I've been a little slow on the forums, heh.

Vito DeFilippo August 21st, 2007 02:44 PM

Ahhh, that warms my heart.

Hope the extra work you put it was worth it.

Vito:
Did you use any MB filters or just play with levels? Looks good. I liked the feel of it.
John

Vito DeFilippo August 21st, 2007 07:41 PM

Hi John,

MB is Magic Bullet I guess?

No, it's just with colour correction. I desaturated everything, then added colour to get the look I wanted. Most of it also has the brightness and contrast boosted.

Glad you liked it. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Cheers,
Vito

Cool

I liked it a lot. I thought the intro was pretty cool, the black and white shots looked great. Nice job.

Thanks, Josh...
