Vhs Copy
Hi guys
Can anyone help me with this little problem. Someone has asked me if I could re-edit their wedding video, which is on a vhs tape. I use the Matrox Rt x2 for editing. But the problem I seem to have is connecting the Vhs player to the input of the Matrox RT X2. My Vhs only has the composite output sockets, (YELLOW PLUG), scart and S Video outputs and the breakout box of the Matrox has the firewire input and the Pb, Pr and video inputs, for digital I think? Can anyone help me out with another way of connecting it. Thanks Wayne |
Consider picking up a Canopus 110 box from Canopus. Then you plug the rca's into the box, the box into firewire and you're good to go. I've done this with great success, although, I would ask the couple for VHS copy, not the original.

Thanks Steven I will try and hunt one down as I am based in England, U.K.
Thanks for the info Wayne |

Many MiniDV camcorders have a 'pass through' capability. Sending the VHS tape out via composite OR s-video into the camera, and through it's firewire connection into your computer might be the easiest/cheapest route to go. Look into that before buying a Canopus transcoder. (I have an advc100 by the way, great little box) |

Richard how are you connecting through the mini dv camcorder then?

Yippppeee!
Got it to go the way you said Richard. Thanks for the advice. Regards Wayne |
Wayne I see that you use the Matrox Rt x2 for editing.
I have a Pinnacle DV500 card and capture from VHS decks give me a 2 pixel artifact (caused by heads on the video player according to other forums). Do you get any of the same artifacts using the RT x2? Was thinking of getting one for my next desktop next year. Having to apply a 2 pixel crop to my videos sloooooooows down rendering and output something shocking. |
I'm trying to capture a VHS tape using my MiniDV camera. Is there a setting the camera needs to be on? I have a Sony VX-2100 and its not working out for me. I guess I have one of the cameras that don't work.

just copy it to dv tape and then use that.
