Vegas 8.0 and Slow Motion
 

Does anyone knows how to make a moving slow motion clip in Vegas appear smother not fragmented? I try to switch to Vegas from Premier+Matrox RTX100. Does Vegas have something similar to "Frame Blend" option in Premier?

I do this all the time in Vegas. You can either set the velocity envelope to a value no lower than 24%, or stretch the clip while holding the CTRL key. You can try to also set the "Force Resample" switch (right-click the clip, choose switches, select "Force Resample". My slo-mo have always been smooth in Vegas. Are you referring to playback or final render?

Well, not the final render, but even is I "Build in memory" the move is still fragmented, and the speed is no lower than 50%. Do you use "Force resample" or any other setting besides just lowering the velocity?

If this is only a playback problem, then it is perhaps your computer not being able to keep up with the demands of the effect. Pre-render should help, but since Vegas does not use harware acceleration, a fast computer with a lot of RAM is required to have effects in real-time not stutter. If the clip looks good after the final render, why is this a concern?

Well Jim, I did not get to the final rendering as i am still working on the movie. The thing is that I have a pretty fast computer with 3Gb of Ram and is playing smooth the timeline otherwise even over a transition. If I slow down a clip, it will play it at normal speed still, but the image is not smooth but shattered especially the moving clips. In Premier I have an option to enable called "Frame Blend" and the movement at slow motion is smoothed out, the system generating the missing frames. The effect I am seeing in Vegas is like in Premiere without "Frame Blending" enabled. Should I still go all the way to rendering? If the clip "Build In Memory" is not playing as I am expecting, is the rendered file going to play better?

The only way to find out is to do it. Just render a small piece out, burn it to a +/-RW and see.
