wedding intro clip
 

hey y'all,

this is just the intro portion of a wedding video I did last year.

One of my first attempts at shooting and editing a wedding video and my first project edited in Final Cut Pro. Shot with a Canon GL1

Had a great time doing this project. The bride and groom seemed to love it, although in hindsight, when I review the footage and the edit, I see so many glaring mistakes, but I guess that's the whole trial and error process of videography. Just chalk it up to inexperience at this point and I'll try to correct these rookie shooting and editing decisions the next time around.

what do you consider your glaring mistakes?

tell us more about the purpose of this clip. was it a standalone highlights, or was it just a section cut out of a longer production?

trial and error got most of us where we are today! but it's great to have these forums, professional videographer associations, and educational conferences to keep us from having to reinvent the wheel.

I'd lose the "page peel" transition. That just screamed "amateur" to me. Also, I've mentioned this before, but shots where someone is talking to the camera, but you can't hear them, are just out of place for me. Find a different clip and put that one somewhere else or in the deleted scenes.

Considering your experience level with shooting/editing weddings, I'd say you did an excellent job!

Hey chris, I only say they are mistakes because I already delivered this project and I can't just go in now and fix it...the mistakes I am talking about are mainly, like Travis points out, some of the transitions and shot choices, as well as some of the color correction.

This clip was just the intro to the entire wedding video, which clocked in around an hour I think. so yeah just a section cut out of the longer production

Thanks Travis, yeah I totally hear ya on that page peel comment, haah. I think being new to FCP, I just wanted to tool around with as many different transitions as I could, that's definitely the wrong way to approach a wedding video I have realized.

and there are a lot of filler shots (such as the groom talking into the camera) in there as I began to run out of suitable footage to use. He wasn't saying anything worthwhile that needed to be in the video, but you're right, that kind of stuff belongs in the outtakes.
