Thanks. These are all things that I will keep in mind and look for the best way to approach. I will see if I can release the bulk of tapes to the event promoter or sponsor and have them take care of the sales and distribution.

I recorded a school play last month. It ran for more than a week.
The director had me tape the DRESS REHEARSAL to bypass the copyright laws. She sold the DVDs for what I charged her so she didn't make a dime off of it.

Worked for us.

You can't seriously believe that would be accepted as a defense.

This forum cracks me up sometimes. Its called "Wedding & Event Videography Techniques" yet when people ask questions about "event" recording techniques they always get answers that are related to copyright(s) even though they didn't ask about that. Its seems like the threads get off topic really quickly once stage show copyrights are brought up. Mabey a copyright forum should be made so people with questions about them could post and get answers if they wanted them.

Well, since *I'm not an attorney*, I can't answer that.

It's what the DIRECTOR (MY CLIENT) called for.

Instructions: Tape the dress rehearsal, not the actual performance.

She sells the DVDs at COST... NO PROFIT.

I'm guessing she checked about the legalities (she's been doing it for 10+ years) and that's what she can do.

We'll do it again next year, too.

Ben,

Exactly.

:)

To the original question...Perhaps show a demo (past shows) of what you're selling, then take orders and payment 'on the spot'. Mail out the DVD's after editing.
