Free No-Fees Music? Is this real?

This company sent me a little email advert today, and I was wondering if it's real, if anyone uses them, and if there is a catch (even though they say there isn't).

well this looks interesting. Did you already sign up? or are you waiting for others to chime in? Interested in how this site turns out.

I called to find out more about it.

There doesn't seem to be any catch other than the service is intended for use by producers of TV shows that will air (TV or cable) or for films that will be shown in theaters. I guess they collect a fee on the back end when the production airs, at least that was what I got from the guy I spoke with. That's why you have to provide cue sheets.

It is not for independent videographers or for TV commercial production. For that, you should use cssmusic.com which has royalty free music available for purchase.

Oh I see - so it's probably ASCAP/BMI and the stations or networks pay the royalties or something like that. I guess we did that same thing at our college radio station.
