height of on camera lights

I'm about to make a bracket to raise my LED on camera lights. I'm wondering how high to go? (image of shoulder mounted camera with 8' light stand attached)

I've got a light frame that will raise the lights about 20" from the lens - it should be pretty sturdy. Will that be enough with the lights tilted forward to get the glare away from wedding guests or am I wasting my time - anybody tried this?

My brackets raise the lights around 6" plus or minus - but they also go out to the side a bit on each side, again about 6-8".

It's a tradeoff beteen reducing the eyestrain on the subject and getting nasty dark shadows underneath noses, chins, etc. I usually prefer to try to diffuse the light and keep it closer in.

if I can I'll just hold my light in my left hand as far out as I can and hold camera with my right. Looks more dimensional to me.
