it sounds like waterproof housings are required for beach footage... scares me because we do a LOT of beach weddings and engagement interviews here in sunny san diego, ca... and i don't currently use any kind of protection on the cameras.

I'll add my 2cents on beach protection. Having lived in Florida for 36 years, I've ruined my fair share of electronic toys at the beach. It's not only the sand, but the salt spray in the air will permeate EVERY nook and cranny of your gear. Total enclosure is the only guarantee, even if that only means a plastic bag and a bunch of gaff tape. Personally I would only take my lowest end cameras on the beach again, or rent someone elses. The damage from salt may not show up for a day or so, return your rental quickly... :-)
