GH in bright sun

Dean (my hubby) has been using the gh1 for about 3 mths and has gradually increased his usage - likes to know his tools before using it as a primary camera for weddings. He found great difficulty in seeing what he was shooting in bright sun through the lcd screen & I'm wondering if there is a hood that's available for it???

The sun was so bright it was difficult to see...he literally could only see his own refelction.

Any suggestions???

Thanks in advance.

DVinfo has a pretty complete section dedicated to the GH1, you might find more help there?

From perusing DVi, I think it's quite probable that a hood/loupe sort of arrangement would be available and solve the problem (looks like all the cool 5DMk2 and 7d owners have them!) - the owners of a GH1 would probably have a better idea of which brand and model would do the trick though!

The hoodman seems to do the job reasonably well - you can't use the lens in sunlight though - just as a shade

Another vote for the Hoodman. It's an inexpensive but effective solution. Not that I ever have to use it in this country!

Thanks Paul,

What do you mean that you can't use the lens in sunlight?

Rochelle, the Hoodman 300 used to have a 2X magnification lens as an optional item. Unfortunately, they discontinued it but if you check on Ebay there may some resellers that still have stock if you're interested.

Ohhh...that makes sense.

Thanks Bill, I'll do a search and see what I can find.

We were on a plane journey at the weekend and my wife was struggling to see the screen on her Walkman. Not only did my Hoodman fit, she was also able to prop it up on the table for a comfortable viewing angle. :)
